CCSF Language Center
General Information

  • The Language Center provides audio, video, and computer stations with high-speed internet access to support and complement coursework in the credit-program languages taught at City College of San Francisco: Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Italian, Pilipino, Russian, Spanish, as well as Modern Greek in the non-credit program through Continuing Education.

  • Unless otherwise posted, the hours of operation are:

    Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m . - 8:45 p.m.
    Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.
    Saturday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.

  • Please call for Summer Session hours and dates.
    The Language Center is closed when CCSF is not in session.

  • Explore this page to learn about the Language Center's services and the materials held for each language, check with the classroom schedule to confirm if your class is meeting in R-205-E, take a "Virtual Tour" of the Language Center, and review the Center's procedures with an "Online Orientation". For general questions about the Language Center, consult the FAQ's. Instructors can consult the instructors' resource page for useful links while the Technology Learning Center offers training and technical support to interested faculty. For in-class and online students, the Disabled Students Programs and Services can help facilitate reasonable accommodations; students are encouraged to first notify his/her instructor regarding accommodations needed. The Learning Assistance Center (R-207) offers tutoring in credit languages.

  • The Online Language Lab has the audio materials to accompany many of the textbooks used in the language classes. CCSF also offers several language classes online through Distance Learning. The Foreign Language Department and the Course Schedule can direct and/or answer your specific questions about enrolling in a language class. Language News has information about campus language clubs and activities, movies and film festivals, Language Links is the Language Center's newsletter. You can contact many of the instructors at his or her homepage as well as discover CCSF's Study Abroad opportunities when you're ready to take your language skills to the next level!

  • Online placement recommendation tests through Brigham Young University are available for French, German, and Spanish. CCSF administers placement testing for Chinese and Japanese.   • Please contact us with your questions, comments, and/or suggestions. The Language Center staff, including faculty monitors with various foreign language backgrounds, are here at all times to assist and support students in their language-learning endeavors.
