Policy for Language Instructors using the Language Center Classroom
(R-205E)

In
The
Language Center Electronic Classroom is a facility designed to support
instructors from the Foreign Languages Department and from other departments.
Equipment in the classroom includes:

Computers
with software and special fonts for word-processing and using email
in Chinese and Japanese
-
Fonts
for viewing and entering text in websites in Chinese, Japanese, and
Russian
-
Writing
assistant software for French and Spanish
-
Audio
console for pronunciation practice, testing, and pairing activities
-
Karaoke
for practicing pronunciation in Chinese, Japanese, Tagalog, and Spanish
-
Our
entire library of language-learning software can be demonstrated and
projected to a foreign language class or other audience
Because
Foreign Languages Department instructors cannot do any of the above in
other labs or classrooms at CCSF, they receive priority over other instructors
in signing up for use of R205E. Priority use of R205E is given according
to the following policy:

Beginning
on December 1 (for Spring) and May 1 (for Fall) AND during the first
3 weeks of the semester, Foreign Languages Department instructors
may sign up for up to 4 class periods at the same time and on the
same day of the week throughout the entire semester

Beginning
with the 4th week of the semester, Foreign Languages Department
instructors can sign up for up to a total of ten (10) class periods
at the same time and on the same day of the week, including the
sessions reserved for the first three weeks

Beginning
with the 6th week of the semester, instructors from the
ESL Department who wish to use the room may also sign up for any remaining
times
General
Use Policy:
-
Instructors
are not allowed to install software or alter the configuration of
the computers at any time. Our staff will not install software from
individuals or from departments other than the Foreign Languages Department.

Instructors
from the ESL Department are required to make an appointment to visit
the classroom prior to their class and complete a training session
on the equipment they wish to use

Instructors
using the classroom are requested to:
1) remind
students that food, drink, and gum chewing are not allowed in the
classroom;
2) not leave students unattended in the
classroom; and
3) when the class is over, check out with
the Language Center staff so that the classroom can be secured
