Reservation Policy for Language Instructors using the Language Center Classroom
(R-205E)

In The Language Center Electronic Classroom is a facility designed to support instructors from the Foreign Languages Department and from other departments. Equipment in the classroom includes:

  • Computers with software and special fonts for word-processing and using email in Chinese and Japanese

  • Fonts for viewing and entering text in websites in Chinese, Japanese, and Russian

  • Writing assistant software for French and Spanish

  • Audio console for pronunciation practice, testing, and pairing activities

  • Karaoke for practicing pronunciation in Chinese, Japanese, Tagalog, and Spanish

  • Our entire library of language-learning software can be demonstrated and projected to a foreign language class or other audience

Because Foreign Languages Department instructors cannot do any of the above in other labs or classrooms at CCSF, they receive priority over other instructors in signing up for use of R205E. Priority use of R205E is given according to the following policy:

  • Beginning on December 1 (for Spring) and May 1 (for Fall) AND during the first 3 weeks of the semester, Foreign Languages Department instructors may sign up for up to 4 class periods at the same time and on the same day of the week throughout the entire semester

  • Beginning with the 4th week of the semester, Foreign Languages Department instructors can sign up for up to a total of ten (10) class periods at the same time and on the same day of the week, including the sessions reserved for the first three weeks

  • Beginning with the 6th week of the semester, instructors from the ESL Department who wish to use the room may also sign up for any remaining times

General Use Policy:

  • Instructors are not allowed to install software or alter the configuration of the computers at any time. Our staff will not install software from individuals or from departments other than the Foreign Languages Department.

  • Instructors from the ESL Department are required to make an appointment to visit the classroom prior to their class and complete a training session on the equipment they wish to use

  • Instructors using the classroom are requested to:

    1)  remind students that food, drink, and gum chewing are not allowed in the classroom;
    2)  not leave students unattended in the classroom; and
    3)  when the class is over, check out with the Language Center staff so that the classroom can be secured
