How to Apply
If you are applying for the first time and are in your home country:
Step 1
Submit the following application requirements to the office of the Intensive English Program:
- Completed and signed IEP Application Form
- Official Bank Certification (not more than 3 months old) indicating the amount of funds available to you at the time of application. The Bank Certification must be an original document/letter, must list a specific U.S. Dollar amount and must verify a minimum of $18,000 in U.S. dollars in order to insure that you have sufficient resources to pay for tuition and living expenses while studying at City College
- Photocopies of your passport title page
- Full Payment of:
1) the course that you are applying for
2) Application Fee
3) Health Service Fee
4) any other Additional Services Fee
(examples below)
to be paid by Money Order, Cashier’s Check, or
Credit Card. (All returned payments will be charged an extra $25)

Step 2
Once the office receives the documents and fees, an I-20 form will be sent to you. For express or additional services, click here for more information.
Step 3
Once you have received the I-20, you need to pay the mandatory $200 SEVIS fee. For more information and online payment options, go to www.fmjfee.com. You will need your SEVIS ID number and the CCSF's school code from your I-20 form, a credit card and a printer to print out your receipt.
Step 4
The last step is for you to make your appointment with the American Embassy in your country in order to get your F-1 visa.
If you are transferring from another school within the US:
Step 1
Follow step 1 above. In addition, please submit:
- Photocopy of your VISA page, I-94 card, I-20
Step 2
Fill out and give your previous school a School Verification for Transfer Students Form which you can obtain at the IEP office or download here.
Step 3
You will receive your new I-20 as soon as your previous school transfers you out.
