Robin Roth

I'm very proud to be the originator of CCSF's Health 25 - Women's Health Issues and Health 26 - Women's Health: Advanced Issues. I'm a full-time faculty member of the Health Education Department, and am active in the Women's Studies Department too. I came to teaching from years of experience working at hospitals, clinics, and mental health centers in San Francisco, where I learned from the inside the politics of health. I taught a course on the topic at the Liberation School and the San Francisco Women's Health Center and found I loved teaching, so I gradually switched my career to education, teaching at CCSF and at San Francisco State University. I was a biology major at Antioch College and earned my Masters in Health Science at SFSU, but I consider my foremost qualification to be my many years as a women's health activist. Working on campaigns with the Coalition for the Medical Rights for Women, the Committee to Defend Reproductive Rights, Breast Cancer Action, Women's AIDS Network, and others, I've learned firsthand that the personal is political, so personal and political empowerment is the main goal of my classes. I take a holistic view of health, honoring the spiritual and emotional aspects as well as the physical. I've been very involved in issues of sexual health and helped create Project SAFE, CCSF's HIV/STD Peer Education Program. My personal interests include: Yoga, Qi Gong, gardening, rock music, reading, and clipping newspaper articles about women's health. I can be reached at (415)452-5153 or rroth@ccsf.edu.
