Gayle Tang, MSN, RN
Gayle Tang, Director of National Linguistic & Cultural Programs
in Kaiser Permanente’s National Diversity Department, is a diversity champion
and leader in the improvement of language access throughout Kaiser Permanente
and the community. Gayle has led multiple strategic initiatives and created
service delivery systems that have supported the provision of culturally and
linguistically competent care to patients and their diverse communities. One of
her major efforts and achievements, Gayle has developed and teaches a Health
Care Interpreter Certificate Program with the goal of developing a cadre of
linguistically and culturally competent healthcare interpreters. She continues
to dedicate much of her time to promoting cultural and linguistic awareness
between patients, health care professionals and the community, and is currently
engaged in several research projects assessing the quality of language access
services, entitled “Building Language Access Through Data Standards and Tools.”
2003 marks Gayle’s sixth year of teaching the course curriculum of the Health
Care Interpreter Certificate Program at City College.
