Betsy Strausberg
I have worked in the health field for over 30 years as a nurse, health educator and massage therapist. I majored in Sociology at the University of Wisconsin and later became a Licensed Vocational Nurse. I worked 13 years in a San Francisco hospital on the post-partum unit and in the adult outpatient medical clinic. From nursing, I realized that teaching health was my true passion. I got my graduate degree in Health Science at S.F. State University and worked as a Health Educator in the following areas: educating teens about pregnancy, childbirth & parenting, STD prevention, and family planning; managing a Health Promotion Department in San Mateo County for people with Medi-Cal health insurance, providing perinatal, diabetes, smoking cessation, weight management, and pediatric asthma education. I am also a Certified Shiatsu Massage Therapist and continue to study holistic health from different perspectives. I approach all health topics holistically, exploring the mind/body connection as well as viewing health within a societal context. As a health educator, I am committed to helping empower all people to improve our well-being through awareness, individual skills development and collective action. My enthusiasm as a health educator and massage therapist comes from my understanding that we all have the potential to be our own healers. The human body and spirit are amazing! I am the proud mother of 2 wonderful daughters and 2 grandchildren. Personal interests include baseball, jazz & other music, dance, movies, holistic healing, and political activism. I can be reached through the Health Education Department at City College (415) 452-7382 and bstrausb@ccsf.edu.
