AIGA

The American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) is the professional organization for graphic designers in the U.S. At CCSF, an AIGA student group offers the opportunity to get involved in the local design community, create a community of your own and help you build leadership skills that will be valuable as you move into the professional world.

CCSF was the first community college in the country to have an AIGA student group, and currently houses one of only a handful of community college student groups. This affiliation provides many resources and opportunities for students to participate directly in the San Francisco design community through open board meetings, tours, lectures, Studio 5, portfolio reviews and other exclusive AIGA events. In addition to participating in AIGAsf events, we hold regular meetings to plan educational and social programs for Graphic Communications students throughout the semester. Past events have included an annual student show (held off campus), guest speakers, field trips and museum, gallery & studio tours. We plan to add faculty demonstrations and reviews to help students in their current coursework.

Student membership in the AIGA is $75/year. For more information, contact Lorraine Leber, AIGA Faculty Advisor, or Monique Comacchio. Look also at the AIGA National Chapter <www.aiga.org>; and AIGA San Francisco Chapter <www.aigasf.org>.
