Vision Statement
The Graphic Communications Department at City College of San Francisco offers programs of study in graphic design, production art and print production.
Passionate and supportive faculty provide an inspiring and structured environment that invites diversity, encourages collaboration, and challenges the individual.
Accessible, affordable classes provide current, hands-on training within a relevant theoretical frame. In addition to practical real-world skills, we promote design ethics and social responsibility.
While there is a focus on visual communication, during their course
of study students participate in classes that allow them to examine
and practice multiple forms of communication including client relations.
In doing so, they develop critical thinking capabilities and acquire
practical skills. Students experience the satisfaction of developing
projects from inception to completion via hands-on involvement.
Success is defined in accordance with high professional standards,
and additional support is offered via a dynamic peer-mentoring program.
Students regularly produce award-winning work, which achieves national
and international recognition.
Faculty and students work together to build mutually enriching
relationships. Building community is integral to many classes and
projects, and is shaped by the interests of faculty and students.
This collaboration between students and faculty creates a focused,
substantive culture of motivated individuals who enjoy their work
and repeatedly exceed their own expectations. It is the place where
many competent voices converge in an expression of confidence, excitement,
and multiplicity.
