Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to follow a course sequence or can I just take specific
courses?
It depends. Certain courses are required if you want to get a certificate
or degree through CCSF. However, if that is not your goal, you can take any course you like provided that you meet the
prerequisite(s) and/or co-requisites.
I don't have a computer. How am I going to do my homework?
You're in luck! The Graphic Communications Department has three
computer labs stocked with Apple Macintosh G4 desktop computers.
They have all the software you need to do your homework. Open lab hours, during which any student in a Graphic Communications class can use these computers, are frequent. In addition, both Macintosh and PC labs are available in Batmale Hall.
Can I attend CCSF if I already have a degree?
Yes! In fact, 10% of the students that attend CCSF already have
a baccalaureate.
I'm over 40 years of age. Will I feel out of place at CCSF?
Not at all. 35% of the students that attend CCSF are 40 years of
age or older.
I don't have a car. How am I going to get to CCSF?
All campuses of CCSF are well-served
by public transportation.
I DO have a car. Is there parking?
The main campus on Phelan Avenue has a huge parking lot; there is a nominal fee to use it. However, it may be difficult to find
parking at other campuses. So it's a good idea to use public transportation or a bicycle if you can.
I've never been that great a student. What resources are there
for people like me?
Plenty! CCSF's Learning Assistance Center has a great deal to offer
students who need help with their studies. For example, the Center has
workshops on English as a Second Language, and on how to succeed in college. They also provide
tutoring. You can even get a mentor from the Graphic Communications
Department.
I will need a place to live. Is there on-campus housing?
No, there's not. Among the thousands
of students who attend CCSF, some live at home, while others rent
or share apartments. Check out the following web site for more information:

I think I'd like a career in printing but I'm not sure what position I want to have when I graduate. How do I determine
what courses I should take?
Try taking one of the introductory survey courses like GRPH 23, GRPH 25 or GRPH 27. They will give
you an overview of the process and help you discover what interests you the most. Advising is available by appointment; contact faculty directly to set up a time for advising.
Many community colleges seem to be "commuter schools"
that have no campus life. Is that the way it is at CCSF?
Not really. There are over 60 clubs and organizations in which
you can become involved.
I didn't find the answer to my question here. Where else should
I look?
