Foreign Language Department

Starting in Fall 2002, City College of San Francisco students may earn certificates of completion 
in Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Pilipino, Russian and Spanish.

A CCSF foreign language certificate of completion can provide you and prospective employers 
with documented evidence of your knowledge, skill, persistence and academic accomplishment 
in your language study.

You may earn a certificate of completion in a particular language by completing 15 or more units 
of coursework with a grade of C/Credit or better at CCSF in that language within a five year 
period.

At least 9 of the units must come from the core sequences in a particular language: 1, 1A, 1B, 2, 
2A, 2B, 3, 3A, 3B, 4, 4A, 4B, 5, 16, 17, 31, 31A, 31B, 32. The other elective units may come 
from any other CCSF courses in that language. The College Catalog and the Schedules of 
Classes indicate which courses are offered in each language.

To apply, you must be currently enrolled in a course which can be counted toward earning the 
certificate. Please check the class schedule for important dead lines.
