2005 2004 2003
DOLCE VITA
One of the most glamorous and important nights for City College Fashion Department took place on May 19th at Ruby Skye, a private club
located in the heart of downtown San Francisco.
Dolce Vita the third annual Spring Fashion Show attracted a crowd of 900 fashion lovers, raising funds and
showcasing the Fashion Department young design talent. Under the expert direction of Fashion Show Production
instructor Natalie Smith, students in her class collaborated with fashion design students to produce a star studded
evening. Commerce and education joined forces to ensure a successful event--- sponsors included Macy*s, Britex Fabrics,
Darlene
Fabrics, Ruby Skye, MAC Cosmetics, Di Pietro Todd Salon, Pasta Pomodoro, and Industry Model Agency, to name a few.
Andrea Speraw of Vocational Education paid for the printing of Dolce Vita collateral materials and Kathleen Alioto of College
Development handled the proceeds and gave ongoing support along with the Fashion Department excellent instructional
staff.
Hands-On Productions,
the Department fictitious production company, produced a professional fashion show
that showcased the design talent of CCSF fashion design students. Inspired by the classic Fellini film
La Dolce Vita starring Marcello Mastroianni and Anita Ekberg, student designs referenced the glamour of Rome in the
60 by using luxe fabrics such as satin, lame, and chiffon. Designers played with flirty details, relying on bias cuts, ruffles
and flounces to create dramatic impact. Collections were injected with some fun high-voltage camp punctuated by feathers and
metallics. Print and color clashes came together in sexy shapes for a strong youthful look. Individualism and diversity were high
on the agenda, showing skilled cutting techniques and attention to detail, coupled with imaginative styling and color mixes.
