| Introduction The Fashion Department is dedicated to teaching the requisite skills needed for success in all aspects of the fashion industry. The curricula offer students interested in careers in fashion merchandising, design and image consulting, specialized programs and training for career advancement and employment.
Admission Enrollment is open to all interested students. However, students are required to complete the procedure for admission to the college.
Degree Curriculum Fashion Merchandising The Degree Curriculum in Fashion Merchandising, a two-year course of study, offers students a Certificate (40 - 41 units) or an Award of Achievement (26 units) in Fashion Merchandising. The combination of classroom instruction coordinated with part-time off-campus employment, is designed to help students advance to mid-management positions in the retail, manufacturing and wholesaling industry.
Employment The jobs that students receive upon graduation depend on their career goals and practical experiences. Graduates may accept positions as sales associates, managers, visual merchandiser, stylists, image consultants, fashion show producers, special events consultants, fashion forecasters, and showroom assistants.
Curriculum in Fashion Design Students enrolled in the Fashion Design Program may obtain a Certificate of Completion in Apparel Design (17 units), Textile Certificate (18 units), and Product Development. (16 units) In order to receive the certificate, the appropriate courses must be completed with a final grade of C or higher.
Employment Design training can lead to careers as fashion illustrators, designers, assistant designers, patternmakers, product developers and entrepreneurs. |
Fashion Merchandising |

The Certificate of Completion in Fashion Merchandising fulfills the needs of two groups; those who desire to prepare for employment in the fashion merchandising field, and those currently employed who wish to improve their on-the-job skills in this industry. |

Image Consulting |
|
The Image Consulting program is designed to prepare students for careers as Image Consultants, Personal Shoppers, Stylists and Sales Associates. They can either work independently or for a retailer. Coursework will incorporate skills such as color and wardrobe selection, figure analysis and setting up a business. |

The Fashion Design program focuses hands-on training in Apparel Design, Fashion Illustration, Clothing Construction, Textiles Flat Pattern Design and Draping. Computer-aided pattern making is also emphasized. Positions available in the field include Assistant Designers, Patternmakers, Fashion Illustrators and Technical Designers. |

Textile Certificate

The Textiles Certificate offers students a very diverse array of techniques ranging from the fundamentals of loom controlled multi-harness weaving to designing woven textiles engaging advanced weave structures. Students explore methods of fabric manipulation in two and three dimensional surface designs employing painting, stamping, stenciling, silk screening and other techniques. Emphasis is on both conceptual and practical skills development. Positions available to graduates include Knitwear and Woven Product Developers, Textile Designers, Weavers, Fabric Developers and Fiber Artists. |
