Fall 2008 English Labs
August 25-December 12 (If the campus is closed, the labs are also closed.)
The CCSF English Department has three primary labs to help students at all levels become stronger writers and readers. Each lab offers different ways to interact and different ways to learn, making for a powerful overlap when teachers, students, and tutors understand what is needed and how our labs, individually and collectively, can address those needs.  Use the labs; learn more.  Here's a printer-friendly lab sheet.

Writing Lab tutoring (Library 207) is offered by instructor and student (peer) tutors who work one-on-one with you at any stage of the writing process. Tutors help you work through difficult parts of the writing process and act as readers who provide constructive feedback. They will help you develop strategies to improve your writing and to locate and correct your own errors. Grammar specialists are also available several hours per week to work with you.  Learn more about the lab and upcoming composition strategy and grammar workshops at the Writing Lab homepage.

Cyberia (Arts Ext 265) is the English Department's computer lab/classroom and has grammar, composition, idea-mapping, and reading software. In Cyberia, lab-credit work must involve integrated technology. There is no one-on-one tutoring, but faculty lab monitors will assist you in locating computer-based activities to help you improve your reading, grammar, and essay writing. Immerse yourself in computer-based writing and reading enhancement and groovy multimedia programs. Cyberia is very cool. Learn more at the Cyberia homepage.

The Reading Lab (Library 207) has a wide range of paper and computer resources to help you improve your reading comprehension and speed, including specific skills such as making inferences and increasing vocabulary. The lab also offers one-on-one reading tutoring sessions to improve your comprehension and comfort--regardless of course level or whether you're reading a novel, an essay, an assignment, or a handout. Also check out the weekly reading groups and discuss literature with a group led by an English instructor. Learn more at the Reading Lab homepage.
