English Eligibility  If you are a transfer student from a California community college, UC, or state university, take your transcript to the Matriculation Office, Conlan Hall 204 or call 239-3751.  Please review these instructions.

If you need courses evaluated from any out of state or private college, you will need to bring a copy of your official transcript (online transcripts not accepted), a course description from the college catalog, and syllabi (if possible). Some issues may require an interview to determine equivalency.

The English Eligibility Essay Exam
The English Eligibility Essay Exam is given each semester by the English Department.  The exam consists of two parts: 1) reading a short essay and summarizing its main ideas and 2) writing an expository essay based on a question about the reading passage. For more information about this exam, students should jump to the current exam schedule and/or contact the English Eligibility Coordinator, Room 514, Batmale Hall, (415) 239-3574.
