Computer Requirements for Online Classes

Prior to enrolling in an online course at City College of San Francisco, we recommend that you review the following requirements.

Computer requirements for some online courses may exceed the minimum requirements. Please contact your instructor for specific requirements.

 DSL or other High Speed Internet access.

 

Note: A personal computer firewall blocks certain ports that may inhibit access to some WebCT functions such as quizzes, discussions and email. Personal firewall should open ports 4445 and 4567 both inbound and outbound.

CCSF uses WebCT Version 3.8 for online classes. You do not need to download WebCT, but you need to check if your browser is supported by going to the Browser Tune up Page.

To find out what version you are using, open your browser,

For Windows: Under the Help menu, choose About Internet Explorer (or Communicator)

For Macintosh: Under the Apple Menu, choose About Internet Explorer (or Communicator)

Your instructor may have further requirements. For example, if you are taking a language class, your instructor may recommend that you have a microphone. Please send your instructor an email to ask about further requirements.
