The Five Star Club was established in 2000. It was created by students who wished to have a forum for extra-curricular activities relating to hospitality and in particular, food and wine.
Activities sponsored by the Club include a day-long field trip each semester to Napa or Sonoma Wine Country, guest speakers on campus who give presentations and workshops on topics such as cheeses, olive oil, sherry wine, fruit and vegetable carving .
The club also publishes a cookbook "City Cooks", featuring recipes from the CAHS Department. Sales of the cookbook, end of semester food service, and nominal charges to the club events help raise funds for the club, and enables the club to make equipment and amenity donations to benefit the Program students. All students are welcome to join; meetings are usually held one afternoon per month.
