About
Since 1935 City
College of San Francisco has served the needs of the city in the
truest populist tradition: 85,000 students spread across nine
city-wide campuses. This multicultural and inter-generational
community college is one of the largest in the country and has
one of the most diverse student body and faculty found anywhere.
City College of San Francisco is home to a creative and growing
Film Production Department. Created in 1968 as part of the Photography
Department, the program became an independent academic department
in the early 90’s. The Film Department is in the planning
phase of expanding its facility, and looking forward to moving
into a new Performing Arts Center on campus. In the meantime the
department continues to develop course offerings and stay current
with new technologies.
In response to the high quality films being produced in the department,
faculty helped launch City Shorts * the City College of San Francisco
Student Film Festival. Running for the last 6 years, the City
Shorts features films in every genre from a wide variety of makers.
Students play a large part in the festival, organizing everything
from posters to the judging process.
