Attendance During The Beginning of the Semester

Because of the expected demand for this course, students who are enrolled in the class but have an unexcused absence will forfeit their spot in the course. BE SURE YOU SIGN-IN ON THE ATTENDANCE SHEET! Students on the wait-list will also forfeit their spot on the wait list should they have an unexcused absence. If you cannot contact the instructor by phone, be sure to email your instructor to inform him of your absence. This policy is in effect until your instructor tells you otherwise.

Lab Attendance: Attending the lab is crucial during the add/drop period. If you miss a lab, your lab instructor may give you spot to another student. IF YOU SHOW UP LATE FOR LAB, YOUR INSTRUCTOR MAY GIVE YOUR SPOT TO ANOTHER STUDENT. LAB CLASSES BEGIN AT THE DESIGNATED TIME AND NOT 1 MINUTE AFTER THE DESIGNATED TIME.

Grading:

There will be 9 quizzes, worth between 15 to 25 points each, 3 exams, worth 100 points each, and a comprehensive final exam, worth 200 points. Homework assignments will be worth a total of 50 points. The point total for the lecture will be approximately 685 to 695 points (depending upon the point total for the quizzes). Students who fail to take the final exam will receive a failing grade for the course.

The laboratory grade will be worth at most 100 points. (See laboratory schedule for details.) The maximum point total for the course will be approximately 785 to 795 points (depending upon the point total for the quizzes). Students who fail to take the final lab practical will receive a failing grade for the course. Students who fail (unsatisfactory pass) the laboratory portion of this course (letter grade of D or F) will be assigned a failing grade for this course.

IN ORDER TO PASS THIS COURSE, STUDENTS MUST SATISFACTORY PASS (C or better) BOTH THE LECTURE AND THE LABORATORY PORTIONS OF THE COURSE.

During quizzes, students are allowed to use their OWN scientific calculators. Under no circumstances are cell phones, lap top computers, palm pilots, or any devices with the ability to access the internet and/or store large amounts of data allowed. Use of such devices will result in an F grade for the exam or quiz.

During examinations or quizzes, you are not allowed to receive or give assistance to another student. No talking in any language between students will be tolerated during test taking. Students observed doing any of the above will receive a failing grade for the assignment.

After the alloted time for the test or quiz, you will be told to stop writing. Failure to do so will result in a deduction of points.

The approximate grading scale for the course will be as follows:

A- >88%

B- >75 %

C- >60%

D- >50 %

(Note: The college does not officially recognize minus grades; e.g., a B- will be recorded as a B)

NOTE: Students who receive a D or F in the lecture and receive a passing grade in the lab will not be assigned a satisfactory passing grade (e.g. C or better).

Attendance: Regular attendance is crucial for success in the course. Absences will result in zero points for work missed. Should you miss a lab session, you are held responsible for the material missed. Students who have 3 unexcused absences may be dropped from the course. THERE WILL BE NO MAKE-UPS.

Withdrawal:

Friday, September 4, 2009- Last day to add credit classes or change sections in person and online using webstars.

Friday, September 11, 2009- Last day to drop class with no "W" notation on transcript.

Friday, November 20, 2009 - Last day to drop class and receive a "W" notation on transcript.

Although the instructor has the option to withdraw students from his/her class based on a high absentee rate, IT IS THE STUDENTS' RESPONSIBILITY TO OFFICIALLY WITHDRAW FROM THE CLASS. Failure to do so will result in an F grade assigned to the course.
