Marcos Gutierrez, Ed.D

Marcos has been teaching since 1991 both at City College of San Francisco and at San Francisco State University. 

His background in media began in 1970 when he was a news reporter and the first Latino on-air talent in the San Francisco Bay Area. His work has been extensive in both television and radio. His radio affiliations include: KMEL where he served as News Director; KGO - Talk Show Host, KSOL, KBRG, and KSFX. In television he has been a News Anchor for KPIX, Host/Producer of an entertainment show for KEMO, his specials have been nominated for Emmy awards, and he has served as Host-Producer for two multi-million dollar PBS-funded specials. Professor Gutierrez has worked as an administrator in the industry, and he has written quite extensively. 

In 1996 he was awarded his Ed.D. by the University of San Francisco. His dissertation is titled "Toward the Twenty-First Century: Radio & TV and the Latino Community". In 1991, Dr. Guitierez received a M.A. in Broadcasting from S F State University and his B.A. was earned in 1989, also in Broadcasting and also from S F State. Professor Guitierrez prides himself on community involvement. His participation includes: 

  • USF College of Professional Studies, Institute for Non-profit Organizational Management, Member of the Advisory Board 
  • Mission Cultural Center, Latinos In Communications, Vice President-Board of Directors. 
  • Margret Cruz Latina Breast Cancer Fund, Founding Member. 
  • Latino Heritage Preservation Foundation, Founding Member
