| The
courses listed below are designed to introduce students to the theories
and techniques involved in painting. These classes cover basic technique
in both acrylic and oil media. Basic instruction in paint mixing, color
theory, grounds and supports are covered in these courses. Throughout
the semester both lectures and slides are used to enable the student to
develop an understanding of the tradition of painting in relation to current
trends and aesthetics. Courses have been designed to give students a developmental experience in beginning, intermediate, and advanced painting techniques. The study of painting is an evolution that in most cases takes more than two semesters to achieve mastery. It is suggested that students follow a course of study in Art History to develop a greater understanding of the subject of painting. A student may take painting at City College of San Francisco for up to four semesters, but only six units of painting can be used to transfer to other colleges and universities. |
