Artist's Statement The most dominant feature of my prints is the rich diversity of color that has been achieved through the use of the multiple plate color etching process. The inspiration for my images comes from an appreciation of my surroundings inside and out, near and far. The etchings emphasize natural and man-made patterns focusing on a certain mood or moment. Printmaking and more specifically etching has been the continuing focus of my creative endeavors. I have been a member of the CSP since 1975 and a member of the National Academy in New York since 1995. My etchings have been exhibited regularly in California and New York and are currently on exhibit at the Nancy Dodds Gallery in Carmel, Le Celle Gallery in San Anselmo, Andrea Schwartz Gallery in San Francisco and Images Gallery in Briarcliff, New York. My education includes a BFA from Syracuse University and an MA from San Francisco State University. Teaching has been an important part of my life and I have taught printmaking classes at City College of San Francisco since 1979. Born in New York City, daughter of a playwright, Edna Toney and a artist and educator, Anthony Toney, I have lived in California since 1974 and in Fairfax since 1988. In the spring of 2003, I will be having a joint retrospective with my father at the College of Marin in celebration of his approaching 90th birthday and our respective artistic careers. |
