At City College of San Francisco,
the TRMDP program focuses on supporting education and promoting children's
literacy and Math. AmeriCorps Members service on an average of 10 hours a week in elementary school classrooms. In addition Members participate in meetings, training sessions and special community service projects to prompt literacy. In the classrooms, members provide tutoring and instructional support in spelling, reading, writing and mathematics.
Participation in TRMDP provides a rich
classroom experience for students considering a career in teaching and can
satisfy the experience requirement for entering a teaching credential program.
Members participate in the daily activities of the classroom as an assistant to
the teacher.
Members provide reading tutoring to their
own small group of five children. These are children who will especially
benefit from additional help with reading. Members are trained to identify
reading problems and develop strategies and lessons to help address individual
student's problems. An on-line application can be printed out
