The Associated Student Council
The Associated Student Council at Southeast Campus, represented by elected students, serves the student body of Southeast Campus by voicing student concerns and organizing and funding programs. The Southeast Campus recently elected a new corps of officer for the Fall 2008-Spring 2009 year. The AS Council at Southeast, working hand in hand with the AS Council at the Ocean Campus, provides for the following services: Book Loan program for low-income students Cultural events and activities Emergency student loan program HARTS (Homeless AT Risk Transitional Students) Student Health Center Students Supporting Students Women’s Resource Center The Associated Students also advocates for the student body on issues of campus safety, cultural diversity, social and political awareness, improving access to higher education, and building a sexual-harassment-free campus. The Peer Mentoring Program The Office of Peer Mentoring at Southeast Campus works hand in hand with the Office of Mentoring and Student Learning at the Ocean Campus. The mission of the Office of Peer Mentoring at Southeast Campus is to enhance student learning, promote teaching innovations and involvement, respond to community needs and foster civic responsibility and personal growth. The Peer Mentors, recruited by faculty members, have been through a course or program and know the challenges that students face. Mentors, with the direction of a faculty sponsor, offer academic and personal support to help students succeed. The mentors have gone through orientation and training that allow them to recognize the individual needs of each student and approach the student with care, dedication and support. |
